Alright, I’m going to start out by admitting that I never saw the original “Dora the Explorer” animated TV show, so I can’t really commit on how true the movie is to the original source material, in case some millennial purist wants to know. But what I can tell you is that Dora is sweet, fun, and funny.

Somehow in a couple of months between the airing of the last episode of “Dora the Explorer” TV show and the release of the movie Dora has aged ten years and has transformed from an animated toddler to a flesh and blood teenage girl. Now I will admit that the action part of this movie is targeted to its PG audience, and is fun but kind of stupid, but the humor is pretty consistent. Dora is sweet and is very much a fish out of water, and so very very earnest. Her earnestness and sweet trusting nature plays against her worldly costars and creates much delightful comedy. She also breaks the fourth wall in what must be funny callbacks to the TV show.

If you have kids in the PG movie stage you have probably already seen the live-action Dora, but if not then definitely put it on your rental list, but if you don’t have little ones you might still want to rent this for a dumb fun time.
